East Asian Themed Tank -- Need Suggestions

Hi there,
I was planning on turning my Eclipse 6 system into a small East Asian themed tank. I do have a betta in there, and I am also looking for a few small peaceful fish from the region (2-3 Medaka, maybe, any suggestions there?). I kind of want it to resemble a rice paddy, and I may actually throw in a few rice shoots, but I was looking to see if any one knew of any aquarium plants I could readily grow in there. They would have to remain relatively small, as its only a 6 gallon, but I will be receiving Eco-Complete Plant Substrate soon, so there should be adequate nutrition available. Anyway, suggestions on either front (the fish or the plants) would be much appreciated, thank you!

its a cool idea but since its a 6 gallon you cant have many residents....im unsure about asian plants but its going to be hard to stock it.

quite a few cryptocoryne species are from asia. Look at the tropica website, they tell you the origin
