Hi there I am looking into getting some small eartheaters for my new tank. I am looking into G.Pindare so they are a true geophagus, but I am unsure of just how pure the sand has to be? I am looking at getting either argos or toys r us stuff (if anyone has a photo comparison that would be fantastic as well on a side note) But I have not had sand in the past and usually like to stack up wood in my tank so I am a bit worried about it going "black" under these areas and the dangers that come with this. So I was thinking about using a fine gravel or would this not work? I know why its said to use sand with them because of their gill functions. Alternatively can anyone recommend a sand that wont "go off"?

Thanks Wills

Just use some play ground sand it's fine. I use sand in all my tanks. I stack rocks on it I don't see any proble
with stacking wood... I don't really understand what your concerns are about useing it. I think it keeps your tank cleaner because all the poo and gunk can not get stuck on the bottom like with gravel. Yes you see the poo more but it's is easy to clean up.

Sure you could try a fine gravle but it will not be the same and you should just stick to sand.
