hey guys theres someone selling these locally as geophagus altifrons, but they don't look like altifrons to me (mainly due to the vertical bar)

would love to hear some opinions, keep in mind these fish are in breeding colours which might make it easier/harder

my first thought was also guianacara but i dont think theyre g. geayi look closer to g. sphenozona to me

I must say I agree that, they are not altifrons
It does look to me like g. sphenozona

No i think we can rule out Owroewefi as these tend to have the circular dark spot on the side, whereas these in the image provided have a vertical band. My initial thought was "bandit cichlid oooh", which ofcourse is Geayi, but i don't know enough about these to confidently stick my neck out and say. It's going to be either Geayi or Sphenozona though IMO. Meguro usually hits it spot on also...

Anyone remember that chaps name who pops on here from time to time. Ooh, er...from Belgium i believe. He post's about his Guianacara and had a very fond incling toward them, he'd be good to ask. Shucks, forgotten his name, sorry
