This may sound brutal to some & others not, I have mixed emotions. Has anyone ever flushed a dying fish, to put it out of it's misery? It's a yellow molly that I've had for quite some time & appears to be miserable :( Any feedback is welcome.

Unacceptable methods of Euthanasia
1. – Flushing a fish down the lavatory
2. – Removing them from the water until death occurs
3. – Plunging them in either boiling or freezing water
4. – Freezing them to death, this method causes pain and immense stress.
– Knocking them unconscious without destroying their brain.

Yes, don't ever flush sick, or even dead, fish down the toilet.

Apart from the fact that's a slow, horrible way to die, there's a slight risk you could be introducing a foreign disease or pathogen into your local river system.

Clove oil (30 drops per litre, shaken into an emulsion and added to the fish, in a small container) or hitting it on the head with a heavy object are the two best methods of euthanasia in pet fish.

I'm sorry your fish is that ill; post back if there's anything else we can do for you.

well i didn't get a fast enough reply here so i called petsmart & they told me to put it a container of water & into the freezer. it was very difficult to do & now i feel twice as bad cause these replies tell me it was very painful & stressful! i guess you live & learn, now i know. thanks guys. was just thinking though, how would a human know that the freeze method is painful & stressful to a fish?
