Dyed Danio?

I know that ruby red feeder is another name for the rosy red minnow, which is another name for the fathead minnow. Not sure if that's the same as your ruby red danio. Do you have a picture?

I don't know why they feel the need to call the same fish by a dozen names.... gets pretty confusing.

Possibly, It's also likely the danios you refer to are actually genetically modified danios, see here.
The only realistic 100% sure way to tell is if you breed them and the offspring are the same colour.

I've also never heard of a ruby red danio. Is that how it was labeled at the LFS?

They remind me of those reddish pink fish that are in walmart under the goldfish. THeir often feeder fish and can be whiteish in color also. Darn can't think of their name at the moment. But they sort of look like danios. Have to see if I can find the name here quick..

Is that them???

I know exactly what your talking about, my lfs calls them danios too, they are actually ruby red minnows. They are a common feeder fish. I had them when i was a kid, those little guys could survive anything.
