Dwarf Puffer And Nano Tank

A really impressive tank. I can't wait for another full tank shot, your planting is really impressive, and I think you've used the space well in your tank.

Thank you,

Im odering some more plants soon to go in the tank. Once the tanks plants have settled and im happy with it i will get a much better tank shot. Will probably cover the filter with some vallis an i think some onion plants will be to big for the tank.

Il be ordering more hairgrass and removing the sagitaria in there as its not doing to good after moving some of it from over growth in my tropical tank.

Vallisneria nana would be good for covering the filter. Wont get to 2 metres like the vallis usually seen in shops.

Just ordered hair grass and various other things for my nano :shifty:

Nice :good: im putting in my order a bit later on. Thanks for the vallis link. The vallis in my other tank is of a huge length now again and i only cut it a few weeks ago lol.

Had to prune mine weekly. It thrived so well. Probably due to my tap water being in-riched with loads of KH. Comes out at 16degrees and after a week the KH in the tank was 5  !
Have you managed to get the DP to eat yet?

Great looking tank, and fish :good:
Would dwarf puffers maim or eat shrimps, even if they were too big for the puffer, cos im thinking of getting one or more for my 17g planted tank (when its finnished)..

Thanks, Mike

Shrimp - It's basically a gamble with shrimp. Some dwarves don't even notice them, while others will rip them to shreds within minutes! I have had a great deal of success keeping Amano Shrimp with my Dwarf Puffers so far, but I know that as soon as the puffers find out the shrimp are tasty, that will be the end of their peaceful coexistence! I would suggest buying some ghost shrimp from the local fish store and giving it a shot. Ghost shrimp are a very inexpensive feeder food, so if your puffers eat them, you're not out much money and the dwarves have gotten a great meal out of it. If they don't eat them, then the shrimp will make an excellent "cleanup crew" for your puffer tank.... scavenging the bottom and cleaning up any leftover food.

It seems as though it wont allow me to say where i got it from

Nope hasnt eaten yet. Will try later tonight. Have read some people's new DPs hasn't eaten for a month or so, so im nto to conerend yet just making sure every day it looks healthy. Its happily swimming around so i guess its happy. Also not puffed up so i guess its not stressed or anything at the moment so it all all good.

Thanks again, DPs really do need there own living quaters and should really be placed in with other fish with a few exceptions like otos and sometimes shrimps. DPs are aggresive and will take most things on from what ive read. I also guess they may shy away from larger fish as they really are tiny.

Here are some more photos of Puffey (ive named him and i hardly ever name fish!!)

For the last month or so my DP's only accepted frozen bloodworm
and newly hatched brineshrimp.

But, yesterday I added some flake and they actually ate it!
The same with today. Although theyonly ate about half and
not with the same enthuisiasm and relish asthey normally do.

Am I the only person who has had DP's which eat flake?
