I have a sole female Dwarf Gourami in my 70l tank. At the minute the only other fish I have is a juvenile Bristlenosed Plec. I'm looking to add more fish to the tank and I was wondering whether it would be best to get a male Dwarf Gourmai for the female (i'm not looking to breed) or would she be happy enough on her own?

Thanks for any advice

Tino

there fine on there own you can have male and female aslong as theres enough places to hide but the male will get agressive when breeding to females will be fine. what else are u thinking of addin

As mentioned a female on her own will be fine. If you do look to get a male then you would be best to also get another female as well. This is because when he decides to breed then if a single female is not willing then he will harass her to the brik of death but if there are 2 females then his attentions will be divided.

I'm thinking of maybe a small shoal of Tiger Barbs (4). I don't want to overstock the tank and I also want to be certain the fish are compatible.

they get to big for a 70l dont they and you need a shoul of atleast 6 to keep agression down

tiger barbs need 125L tanks as an absolute minimum and at least 6 preferably 10 in a group to aviod harasment and deaths

why not get another dwarf female gourami - females get on well together and a couple of the red robin honeys and the yellow honey gouramis , can be male or female of these

Thanks very much for the advice - I think i'll steer clear of the Tigers until i've upgraded my tank. I'll have a think about another female and also possibly the honey Gourami.

Cheers
