I have a Dwarf Gourami with what looks like popeye. It has come on in the last 12 hours (he was ok when I fed him this morning) what are the possible treatments and cures and is it contagious to the other fish in the tank?

Hi Jozlyn, if you have any other gouramis, isolate as quickly as possible; it might be another symptom of our infamous dwarf disease (mine lost sight in that eye, but still going strong!). I have been using meds with acriflavine as active ingredient, and that has worked fine. I suggest you also look at this thread http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1152717. It details which active ingredient you need to combat which disease.

Good luck!

Yes, I've lost two to the iridovirus now. No, no other gourami in the tank.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look.

None of the med's I have on hand have any of the active ingredients listed for pop eye in that thread.

I do however have Aqua Master - Multi Cure - which has Malachit green, methylene blue and acriflavine in it, would this do the trick?

Like I said, for me it worked with acriflavine, but I am not an expert. Maybe you would like to try to get answers in the emergency section as well.
Thanks, he's all better this morning. Weird how it came on so fast (overnight) and cleared up again a couple of days later (overnight!). Will do some further research tho, just in case it happens again.

Did the eye just go cloudy or did it swell, if it came on and disappeared fast it may have been a dechlorination issue, maybe not enough used?
Chlorine can cause a cloudy eye and temporary blindness (or so i have been informed).
