Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): female dwarf gourami: area around one eye is red and swollen but actual eye is fine. Colour not off, normal behaviour, maybe hiding a little more than normal

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 25% weekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: API tap water conditioner at water change, also stress coat and stress zyme

Tank inhabitants:2 kribensis, 6 silvertip tetra, 2 black neon, 5 neons, L128, 1 dwarf gourami, 3 amano shrimps

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 3 plants, steralized before addition

Exposure to chemicals: tank was treated with protazin for whitespot over a week ago, along with melafix to prevent secondary infection. Male dwarf gourami looked very ill then his scales stuck out (presumed dropsy) so treated with interpet anti bacterial no.9 second dose yesterday (using half dose because of L128). Male gourami died day of first dose (Wed), female gourami developed eye problem since yesterday.

sorry about bad quality pics, used phone as camera batteries dead...

What is it? Should I carry on treating with interpet no. 9?

any help much appreciated!

Could he of damaged himself on something in the tank.
Is the swelling going down yet.

Hi wilder,

Don't think so, it's swollen all around the eye - looks like she's wearing a red monocle lol! :hyper:

Hasn't gone down yet... not got worse either. It's strange cos she doesn't seem at all bothered, just swimming around like normal.

Could it be something bacterial?

Yes red and swelling can be bacterial.
I would add a bacterial med if it isn't improving, can you issolate the sick fish.

Just been reading does the red around the eye look like blood.

Hi wilder,

it sort of looks like a blood blister, so not blood as such, but looks like if you pierced it it would leak blood. It has gone down a lot today.

We got ourselves a hospital tank + small filter but not enough £ for a heater so apprehensive about putting her in their til we've got a small heater. Or would she be ok if we put it say in the airing cupboard? It's only small plastic tank, about 1' long.

I was already treating with interpet no. 9 it says I can't use meds again for a week, so can I add some pimafix instead or carry on with no.9 or do I have to leave it for a while?

thanks for all your help again!

Have you done two round of the bacterial med then.
I would do a water change and run some black carbon.
You need to keep going as i'm scared once you stop the med the spots it going to get worse.
See how it goes for a day.
