One of my favorite fish, not kept them for too long - want to get a second tank specifically for them soon

Hmm... Might have to try them at some point in the years ahead.

Not sure about dwarfs but you could easily keep a breeding pair of dovii cichlids in there for life.

Imagine if they took the advice and decided to get a pair...

Sorry for not replying, thanks for all the response, the tank is 60cm x 30cm x 30cm
I've had a look at Laetacara (dwarf flag cichlid) and they look very nice and don't grow to big, would they be the best option and would a pair breed?
(I have a driftwood cave I want to make use of)
I thought about keeping them with harlequins or tetras but would smaller rasboras get eaten?
I also have lots of cherry shrimp would cichlids eat them?

Thanks, Chris

I moved my colony of cherry shrimp out of my big tank into my small tank in preparation for the arrival of some cichlids. Yes, I think a cichlid would fancy a cherry shrimp for lunch.

I do have a smaller tank that I could move them to but my tank is heavily planted so getting them all out will be impossible
