I know this is a dumb question but I haven't seen the answer anywhere. When doing tests for PH, Ammonia, etc when it's ready to be compared to a color chat are you suppose to have the test tube horizontal or vertical to compare it?

I don't think it realy matters. If they look very different I'd just hold it vertical.

Well, i've wondered the same thing. When I hold it horizontaly it usually matches the colours on the chart a lit bit better. But when it's vertical, it's a bit too dark

Yah barday, thats why I asked this question because it means the difference between 2.4PPM ammonia and 4.9PPM.

I don't know about y'all, but in the medical profession, we hold the strips (urine, etc) horizontally, so that water (or urine) that is mixed with chemicals on one pad does not drip down to the next pad and POSSIBLY affect it.

P.S. This applies to those using strips. I know NOTHING about tubes.

I try to do my test in the daylight hours, I just place in the window and match to the card, also wait 5 minutes as the result can change on nitrite.

That doesn't really answer my question should the tube be horizontal to gravity or vertical.

Don't no never heard of it before, dosn't it say in the test kit instructions.
