thanks for all the replies dont wanna drag this post on but hmmm....i was advised against t duboisi in my proposed tank... but ignoring the reasons given (they are hard to keep, can mutilate eachother very quickly) wouldnt they actually be quite a good robust fish (in the aggressive sense) to house with mbunas? or is that another area that would be their downfall. would the mbunas hound them or would it be vice versa? i really respect all your replies to this topic but a few guys have told me other than them being touchy to water and the fact that they can be very intolerant of eachother, i should be fine. im inclined to just try. if if didnt work out ive got plenty of emptys tanks they could go into (i run a fish hosue)do you see what i mean? lol thanks for your patience
They are nowhere near as aggressive as Mbuna and could get very stressed in an Mbuna tank. On the plus side, due to their shape and appearance it is possible that Mbuna will not see them as a threat and ignore them.
Extremely risky and more likely to fail than succeed IMO but hey if you wanna try it, go for it.
If in the agression stakes a tropheus is a tropheus then I wouldn't even bother to buy the fish and try it. I had a pair of tropheus in my tank for a week. He was murderous towards his mate and towards any fish that came near him. My big zebra male took a dislike to him and they were lip locked daily. Fins and bits were flying and poor old Miss Piggy (zebra male) had a lip flap I couldn't wait to get them out.
I think they are stunning looking fish, so graceful and really really quick round the tank but I'd not do it.
Guess then this is going to make you want them all the more
