well I got these guys conditioned again and currently he is making a nice nest and she is freaking out trying to get to him. I finaly got some ok pictures of the male. does it look like he is possible a dtRT not just a dthm? as there is good bit of feathering going on. he didnt have that when I first got him, its just develping now.

I also realised I never named these guys...any ideas for names?

her-this is one of the girls my sister azul breed, her daddy was our favorite ft male.

Holy - nice fish!
She's a lovely colour, even her barring is pretty - if you're considering suggestions for names, I've started looking up blue-related names and Celestite, which I thought both rather unusual and pretty, is apparently a blue healing stone which is supposed to lift moods, help through problems and with spiritual communication.
I'm sure she does a better job.
Have to try again though once I sort out better search terms as not much turned up yet that I thought useful and it's nice to have a list.

Your boy is really something!
Lucky Netty supplied me with that drool-absorbant, betta-watching bib...
Especially if those are just 'OK' pics - that's past finnage - qualifies for drapery!

At least I'll have time to squeeze out that bib a bit before you pull out the baby pics.

gorgeous pair! Thank male is to DIE for!! and the girl is gorgeous too!! Cant wait to see their babies!

thank you guys, that male is actualy a petco last min let me take you home or youll die fish. I seem to be fairly good at picking out ones that will be cute feed up and healthy.

the females name is now celeste, the boys name is still undecided.

I think you're psychic.
Either that or your good deeds are being rewarded.
Celeste IS prettier - the 'tite' part was unusual, but iffy, depending on how it was spoken.
And the more spectacular the fish, the harder it can be to find a worthy name...

He is amazing Newfishy.......never seen a DT with so much finnage

How is the spawn going....have you started yet?

actualy they spawned yesterday and were done bye evening. not a single nip to him and a tiny nip to her anal find and thats it. daddy is now keeping on eye on his eggs

funny thing is I saw a bunch of decent hms and a possible rt at that same petco, all near death, but if someone was willing to spend 14 bucks and some meds they could get themselfs some really nice fish-well if the fish live that is.

Good luck with them.....sounds like Dad is managing not to eat them, so fingers crossed you get lots of gorgeous babies :good:

what....the....hell....

I checked on him around noon and the nest was fine and he was busy takign care of his eggys.

I checked on him at 5 and he ate all but one egg and the entire nest is gone. way to go buddy, eat 200 plus eggs in one sitting. moron.

what do you think the chances are of one fry making it to adulthood? I can not figure out why my guys do this, they are very well conditioned, this was his second spawn. sigh I can always try again in a few weeks. and then I am taking the nest from him as soon as they are done.

Oooooh, what a freaking disappointment!
And after such a wonderful and injury-free mating, too.
Why leave one, unless perhaps it was the only one not fungused or something?
Darnit, if he wanted eggs for lunch, you'd probably have done him real ones, with bacon...
Well, the next batch'll be even more beautiful than these would have been.
And maybe that last fry'll grow up to be something really special.

How the heck does a fish with a stomach the size of his eye eat 200 eggs - or 199 - at a go, anyway?

Didn't you start having a problem with spawns after moving house?
Or was it after using a different room for fry raising?
Wish I could remember where I left my memory, it's getting downright scary...

the first room I had all the bettas in was an upstairs bedroom, turned out when ever my son made noise it scared the crap out of the bettas. and becaue you cant really tell a 1 year to be quite while he plays I moved them to the basement. had sucessfull spawns down there until the furnace broke and it belched thick black smoke all threw my basement and rest of the house. killed off two batchs of fry and really made the adults sick and several of my nicest bettas died.

currently they are on the first floor in a spare room, no noisy baby, no furnace casuign air quality problems. and this very dad had a sucessfull spawn not two weeks ago. the only think I didnt do differenet this time was the first spawn I added a few drops of fungus meds to the water and all was well, I didnt do that with the new spawn. so I guess they could have been funguesed and he ate all the bad ones.

on the upside the last egg looks like it may hatch soon.

Oh noooooo......I'm so sorry. Me and my big mouth.....I think I jinxed you

Hope you manage to keep the little gone going :good: and better luck next time. I'm going to keep quiet until you have free swimming fry!!!!!!
