Dthm/hm Spawn 11/21/08

hehe the one little egg has hatched and is still looking like this l in stead of this --. but I think he may be swimming by tomorrow. at any rate I lowered the water level and have his food ready.

my husband thinks im nuts for having 1 20 gallon tank for one fry right now. but I just dont feel like putting him anywhere else till he gets a little bigger.

Oh how adorable! Fingers crossed he gets through the next few weeks with no problems and grows into a lovely healthy betta - wouldn't want him growing into a lovely healthy oscar or anything.. that'd be wierd..

the first room I had all the bettas in was an upstairs bedroom, turned out when ever my son made noise it scared the crap out of the bettas. and becaue you cant really tell a 1 year to be quite while he plays I moved them to the basement. had sucessfull spawns down there until the furnace broke and it belched thick black smoke all threw my basement and rest of the house. killed off two batchs of fry and really made the adults sick and several of my nicest bettas died.

currently they are on the first floor in a spare room, no noisy baby, no furnace casuign air quality problems. and this very dad had a sucessfull spawn not two weeks ago. the only think I didnt do differenet this time was the first spawn I added a few drops of fungus meds to the water and all was well, I didnt do that with the new spawn. so I guess they could have been funguesed and he ate all the bad ones.

on the upside the last egg looks like it may hatch soon.

I knew there was something absolutely horrible related somehow to moving fish/spawns.
But I think I heard of several people having really awful problems right about the time I learnt of this, so I got the disasters scrambled, even though yours unfortunately really took the cake, so to speak.
You lost your Rosetails and everything.
I come here confused and I seem to be living that way...

Apparently a lot of other people also do usually put an anti fungal in as a precaution, says the One Who Knows Nothing, and I've heard you can use Pimafix to avoid potential damage from various meds; as you say, that might have been it as I hear fungusing of eggs is all too common.
That even lets your beautiful boy off the 'egg-sucking hook 'and gives him 'Good Daddy' status for saving one for you.

At least you do have one little girl or boy which I'll bet will be spectacular.

And as your fish look to be in beautiful condition and had such a good, gentle spawning, re-conditioning shouldn't take long, either, as he hasn't been wearing himself out taking care of eggs?
I've no idea myself, of course, but one can hope.

Boy, it's hard to come up with something positive and cheerful to say about this and I've even slept on it...
