Evening all.

I have a 120l tank which I've had for a while now but one of my pearl danios has got dropsy. I know this as I've done a bit of research and the fish has all the symptoms, a bloated looking belly and flaky scales. A lot of things I've seen on the internet say it cannot be treated or is extremely hard to treat as it is a kidney problem but I want to know if it is contagious or not?! I've seen so many things on the internet where some say it is and others say it isn't.

Just wondered if anyone on here has even encountered it amongst their communities and if so what they did to combat it

Thanks for reading

You can treat with salt. It's not contagious, so if you have sensitive species, you can isolate the fish before salt treatments. However, I believe, and I'm not positive on this, that it's a bacterial infection when it comes on suddenly, so this means poor water quality could be the cause. Best to test your water parameters to be sure. If it's a bacterial infection, other fish may develop dropsy.
