my bettas body is really swollen today, and his scales are starting to pop out. he is sluggish, just hanging out on top of his tank starting at the new little bettas tank.
last few weeks he has been getting pale but this is the most swollen i have seen him.
he did eat normally, and he is somewhat reponsive to me.
i did a water change on his tank and the little filter has had the carbon removed from it and i am trying melfix.
are these the signs of dropsy, can i save him
also how did he get it he has no other contact with any other fish, the baby is in a whole new tank. and they share nothing.
i use frozen live foods do you think that the culprit because i will throw them all out right now.
please help

If it is dropsy then the way he would've contracted it would be through poor water quality. It may be overfeeding causing the water issues. I'm not sure if it is dropsy or not but it does sound similar.

do you feed him pellets at all, i found with mine that they expanded in water, my guy ate them straight away so they'd still be small, after this i fed him pea which helped a little, then strated soaking them before feeding and less regualy, i used other pellets mainly after that

There are several possible causes for Dropsy. Treat with epsom salt 20mg/L.
The main cause is bacterial
Prognosis of fish dropsy is not good. By the time fish has swollen up enough that the scales begin to raise, the internal damage may be too extensive to repair. It really does depend on how severe it is.

One med that is readily available is Interpet #9
