my zebra danio has droopsy and a bloody butt, last week a different one showed the bloody butt. Is it contageous, its in my ten gallon with four other danios, a male dwarf gouramis, pair of guppies, pair of peppered corydoras and a rubbernose pleco.

i dont have another tank only a bowl, and its winter hear so the temperature in the house is lower. what do i do?????

yes, dropsy is contagious. you might have to treat the entire tank with an appropriate antibacterial med. use epsom salt, 1 tsp per gallon or 1 tsp per 5 gallons to reduce the bloatedness. whatever you do, don't use aquarium salt, as it makes dropsy worse.

edit: just looked at your sig and i have to say you're overstocked.

I have a betta with on going Dropsy. When you notice the signs of Dropsy it is most of the time too late. Dropsy is not contagious. Because Dropsy is what you see and notice a fish can become puffed up for a number of reasons THE CAUSE OF DROPSY can be contagious.

It is always best to remove the fish. They say that if the fish with Dropsy dies and the other fish start to eat it they have a good chance of getting whatever bacterial infection it might have been.

Like with my betta girl I have had her for almost a year now. I saved her from walmart. She has always been rather large/FAT retaining water. Not till resonantly have her scales started to stick out. I am thinking her case could have been caused by kidney failure. All the other fish that have been living with her this whole time are all fine. With the exception of another betta who has a tumour on one side. But that's a tumour. So now I have a hospital tank with reject bettas who I am trying to treat for bacterial infections because that tends to be the main cause.

You really should separate the sick fish. Try treating it but many times it's very hard to fully treat. I know it is scary when a fish comes down with something like this. I started freaking out too. I posted a thing and no has been able to answer my question. SO I do my own research.

Separate the fish try treatment and hope for the best. You could treat the whole tank as well, just to make you feel better. But adding unnecessary meds is not the best thing to do.

Keep up with your water changes do them more often and that will help keep all the others safe and healthy. That's what I do and they are all doing well.

Some fish like some people just get sick.
Good luck.
