Whenever i have these bits of driftwood in my tank they seem to cause high amounts of ammonia, im int he process of boiling them, they orginally lived in the VIV so i can only assume they must be contaminated with something.

Going to continue boiling but wondered has anyone else had to deal with anything like this before?

If they have been in the VIV then it could be quite a big build up of ammonia from the urine of the reptile/s being kept. I would put them into a container with a small filter to try and process the ammonia that is leeching out. I would also use mature media. Sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs! :good:

Ps do a 20% WC on the container every other day, it should help!

XD figures i had that feeling! I've a container spare to boil them in, the last one cracked lol

Will continue to try destroy this darn ammonia! thanks!

To be honest I dont think boiling them will do much good. I would just let them leech into a container as said. I find the boiling is only any good for removing the tannins!

Good luck regardless! :good:

arg lol, well into the container they must go! got a fast cycled tank for the cichlids so they may well just have to put up with the crappy wood :(

I have some wood for sale in the classifieds if you are interested in a few pieces I could do you a good deal. :good:
