Driftwood From Lake Windermere

I have found some awesome pieces of driftwood from a trip to the Lake District last week. I found them rock hard and totally stripped of bark, bonus! Seeing as they are pretty much ready to go straight into the tank, barring the obvious buoyancy issues, what else should I do to prepare it for the tank, if anything??

Boil it or tip boiled water on it to help kill any nasties on it
And soak it for a couple of days

well brush it to get wood hairs of it then soak for 3 days and then boil for about 45 mins in a sink ok?

Cool, thanks for the replies. With regards to the boiling, do you just mean to tip the boiling water over the wood in the sink, it is WAY too big to boil on the stove!

I would soak it in boiled water. Try and weight it down or wedge it under the water with a brush handle or something. This is what i did. I now have to have it weighted down in the tank with rocks etc.

Nothing wrong with a nice bit of boiled water on a bed of seasoned mopani, with a grit/sand garnish!

If you have a large bin or something - old kitchen bin maybe? Put it in that, and pour boiling water over. Next day pour it off and replace. You might have to weigh it down in the bin. Also, if it floats when you put it in the tank, you can silicone it to a piece of slate and then bury the slate under the substrate so you can't see it
