Let's get some experience's and factual know-how here. . .

What's the worry level (of lets say transfered parasites and such things we all worry about bringing into our tanks) for putting drift wood into one's tank, that is not from the store, but is found on the beach and cleaned at home, when the wood has been out of water for over 12 years.

I guess, how much is there to worry about with a piece of drift wood that was taken from the beach 12 years ago, and cleaned then, and then kept in a box with more drift wood in a home for that span of time?

I know how to clean the drift wood, I've ready up on it plenty and procedures, so I don't really need to hear that, just want to know if there is much that needs to be worried about when it comes to bringing unwelcome odds and ends into ones tank. (I know, just a lot of hot water and a good scrubbing).

well put your odds against mine.

one day decided i need a sexy piece of wood for my tank. went to the nearest lake that recently had all access closed due to toxicity from the flood.

when i got home i grabbed the garden hose and sprayed carelessly for a couple of minutes. after i figured i got most the junk i put it in my tank. no boiling or anything lol (its very large).

tanks been up for months and all is well. it didnt even bleach tannins. the darn thing still wants to float if not anchored though!

I know i was very very daring by not washing it well and getting it from where i did but everything turned out fine for me!

worry level for you is non-existant. worry? whats worry mean?? haha good luck :good:

Well it's definitely good to know this, because I really wanted to use this wood, and I have cleaned it with hot water, gave a scrub down just for extra measure and it's going to be the basis in my 50G cube, which is going to be planted, when I finish my 50-breeder cichlid tank. I purchased brass screws and suctions cups and have fixed all the wood down with them (five pieces of strategically placed drift wood, I have a box is 4' x 3' x 3' and is loaded with drift wood of all sizes, so I had a hay day going though it but my biggest wonder and worry was making sure that everything was going to actually be okay in my tank).

Just biol it for an extra precaution.

woodlice or anything could be hidden away inside it.
