This nasty white/ transparent slime is growing all over my piece of Malasian drift wood. It was starting to cover my Java Moss, so I took it out to wash, and it smelt of Salphur. What is it? My guess was something the company sprayed on it, for what ever reason, that started to come off due to the excess water conditions it was placed in. Don't really know though. You guys think it may be hamrful to plants/fish? I got some washed off today before I left. I'll see how it goes.

im having a similiar problem with some drift wood of mine. its getting a greeny coloured slime on it.

Could be mold of some sort... I've never had this problem with driftwood as I've never kept driftwood. Did you allow the wood to soak for a week before adding it to the aquarium?

I can't tell you exactly what it is, but it's most likely not from anything added to the wood. I collected and sterilized my own driftwood for my tank, and ended up with the same type of translucent white mold while it was cycling. The stuff disappeared on its own after a while, probably from algae or bacteria taking over the space.

What danio said is right, it will get a little bit of mold during the beginning, but this will eventually go away.

My driftwood is covered in a green algae would this go away if i soaked it in boiling water?

Maybe you should remove the wood and place it in a tub or bucket and really scrub it down with a stiff brush and maybe boil it for a while if possible. I don't thinnk just boiling alone will remove algae from the wood.
