Dramatic Color Change

Here are before and after pictures of one of my Apisto's. He went through quite a color change since I got him.

Before:

His color darkened and these beautiful blues and purples developed on his body. Unfortunately he died recently and I didn't get any current pics where his color looked even better, he really developed a beautiful dark purple on most of his body.

After:

There were times when he was being dominant or agressive and his body would get very dark like this:

Yes, I have many Apisto's (all were purchased in pairs) and other dwarf cichlids as well.

probably coloured up for breeding

Yes he was an Apistogramma agassizii "Red Tail"

He may have when he got that dark look in the last pics, but all my Apisto's have colored up with age. Just like most cichlids, full color potential comes with age.
