Don't You Love It When Lfs Sell Fish They Know Nothing About?

Ok so I go into my lfs, I see the most beautiful catfish ever.

They tell me that it's a gold spot catfish (not a spotted one)
What do they know about it? Nothing!!!
Not how big it gets, what it eats, it's preferred water ect ect.
Grrr Now I normally go home do some research and then decide but I fell for these guys bad and would of had the tank full if I'd got the money.
Upon my return with 2 of these beauties I cannot find them anywhere, 3 hours of researching gold spot catfish gave me nothing!!!

Oops it's a Horabagrus brachysoma (sun catfish) but I still cannot find any UK information on these guys just lots of info about how the 'thais' freeze the sperm and breed them (comments from online)

Anyone ever had one? know anything about them?
I currently have them in my tetra's tank, so far not even a nudge from them towards any other fish, but I'm sure like most catfish there going to get very big and eat smaller fish (not a problem but I hate moving them unnecessarily)

Any help welcomed.Please.

they get to around 18inches and are very predatory they basically a miniture red tailed catfish

You'd think as people within the trade they would be the ones to look up to, but they just let them selves down the majority of the time. Its appaling.

Had they of said they get big like most catfish and eat flake, blood worm and each other then fine. But when i asked i got a ...erm, i didt order dem an the guy who did int in, i don't fink he knows owt anyway.

Are you taking them back then? Or have you got a huuuuuge tank planned for the future?

A lot of people have this problem with Catfish. Even some of the best independant LFS's i've been in have been selling the likes of Gibby's like Guppies. Just another little problem that happens in our great hobby.

Very true. I got a couple of fish from someone who was bored with them after a few weks. The Lfs he bought them from helpfully said they were "catfish" -turned out to be baby synos.
