Don't Like The Look Of This

Hi,

I recently bought a tank / cabinet on eBay. I have setup the external filter / plumbing and have been running for about a week now to ensure there are no problems while I sort out the lighting. Went away for the weekend, came back and found some growth on the hood. What is it and how do I get rid of it? (There are no fish in the tank)

just looks like damp

may need rubbing down and repainting/varnishing

Looks like spider webs and eggs to me, but then again I havn't seen this before. Have you tried cleaning the hood and waiting to see if it grows back again?

I originally cleaned the hood however I will clean again and give the wood a coat of some sikkens I used on external doors, that should offer plenty of protection.
