OK, if my wife ever comes on here, will one of the mods please delete this post? :p
In the 35 plus years that I've been in this hobby, I'm sure that I've spent way more than $4000. I'm not sure I want to think about exactly how much more :( In the last couple of years that I have been setting up my fish room, I have bought an awful lot of stuff, but as far as equipment and stuff goes I try to buy second-hand as much as I can. The 40 tanks that I have running right now are probably 75% used...yard sales are great things! My job at Wal-Mart gets me a 10% discount of all my fish supplies and food, the part-time job I had at a local saltwater store got me a 20% discount on anything from there. This is the only way that I get by.
This doesn't even include the electric bill to heat the fish room.....

Don't make me think about this anymore!!!

Easily over 4,000... and I've only been into fish for 3yrs...  :X It's the saltwater I tell you! The saltwater! It's soooo expensive! The 25g cost at least 1,000 to set up, and the 48g cost at least 2,000! Hmmm... maybe I should find a less expensive hobby. -_-

Just kidding!!!!   I will die old and poor... but a happy poor at least. :D

I hear ya!! 4 of my tanks are saltwater. The largest, a 125 gallon, I got an excellent deal on...got the tank, metal stand, and 4 inches of live sand for $285.00. The part I really had problems with though was buying the huge piece of live rock that sits in the center of the tank, it is one of the larger chunks of live rock I have seen, really pretty, lots of stuff growing on it......but I really had a hard time with spending $100.00 for a "rock". :dunno:
The filters, powerheads, skimmer, additional live rock, and fish have all come slowly. The tank was full of water for about three or four months before it ever saw a fish. "Good things come to those who wait...."

ive spent wayyy to much money on fish....

how sad are we

I scrape together my rent at the end of each month... this month I think I'm about 20 pounds under so I'm going to have to borrow it off a friend... :/ Every spare penny I get goes on the fish. This month I've bought:

120litre tank - 135 pounds
L27a plec - 26 pounds
other fish - probs 10-20 pounds
a bottle of melafix
plus live foods and random fish stuff

This is a 'bad' month. I usually don't spend this much. I probably usually spend about 40/50 pounds a month on the fish.

So far this yr (2005)

75g tank-487.00
Filters,heaters,and lights- 500.00
Fish-340.00
Canopy for 46- 100.00
Sand,food,meds- 100.00
