I've been reading profiles for the Dojo Loach. I have seen four sites that suggest a 30 gallon is large enough to house three. I know they get up to 10" so I was surprised that they could possibly be housed in a 30 gallon tank. I saw another site that said a minimum 100 gallon tank was required.

That's a huge difference. So I'm wondering how large a tank they actually need.

I'm stocking a 36" 35 gallon tank and I'm wondering if I can keep 3 dojos, possibly with some Bleeding Heart Tetras and Harlequin Rasboras.

I'm not sure of how many you could keep in a 30 gal, but dojo loaches are coldwater fish, and need temperatures needed for other fish like Goldfish or White Clouds. Tetras can't survive in such cold conditions.

According to Loaches Online, and other profiles, Dojo Loaches can tolerate temperatures ranging from 50- 77ºF (10 - 25ºC). I keep my tanks between 24-25 C.

dojo loaches get #40## gigantic, like a foot long or so, so imo 0 can go in a tank your size. They're like giant kuhlis, they like to be kept in groups and all. 100 gallons seems more realistic to properly keep them.

Why not get khuli loaches instead? you could get a good school of like 8 in a tank with rasboras and bleeding heart tetras just fine.

Weather Loaches can tolerate 25C for a short while, but they should not be kept at that temperature all year round, they should be kept at <20C most of the year.

They need a 5-foot tank, my 8 (because they are very social) used to do lap after lap of my 5x2x2 after dark, while in the daytime they tended to chill in the shady areas, burrowing into the soft sand.

My wifes nan keeps 2 weather loaches in her pond all year round and she lives in england.

Im not suggesting anyone try this but hers have grown from a few inches to nearly a foot in about 2 years

No one shout at me for keeping these outside. its nothing to do with me and i have advised her plenty of times to take them out .............althouh they do seem to be thriving.....even under ice

the reason i bring this up is just to show what geniune cold water fish they are
