doing a water change on a tank with indian almond

at the moment my betta tanks all have indian almond leaves in and the water is nice and brown, how do i do a water change? won't putting them into fresh water upset them.

I keep a 55gal. drum with water that contains leaves. So my water change always stays the same. Occationally I'll just add straight water to simulate rain.
