Dog Worming Tablet

To be honest our *known* meds dont really do much for anything really so finding alternatives is the best way to go, and knowing they work helps other keepers.
Well done Bloo, hope it gets pinned soon :)

Would i be right in suggesting sterazin is one of the 'dont really do much' treatments?

Correct. In too many cases it just doesn't work. Unfortunately I can't remember and refer to threads, but I've seen countless people give up hope and ending up destroying fish because Sterazin just didn't work.
Waterlife is on the whole and excellent brand so I'm not knocking it - but I'm saying it's not a "sure cure" for a broad range of internal parasites.

You also cannot use Sterazin with any crustaceans / shrimp in the tank.

Thanks black angel & Coomon10 :) glad it's of help to some.
Must say I took a deep breath when I ordered and tried it out on my tank with shrimp - I really didn't want to risk losing £100's of fish/shrimp, but I had little choice unless I wanted to wait and see "what happens".

hi
as said meds that work for a certain creature will not always work for another and may kill them.
for a start even if it was the right actual drug getting the dose right for a fish would be impossible to calculate or even estimate by cutting a tablet up. and it is highly unlikely that all or any of the ingreds in a dog worming tablet would be safe for a cold water creature.

swapping drugs around like that is dangerous to your pets and if you want an example: paracetamol(panadol) which is generally a very safe drug if taken in the correct does for humans is usually FATAL if given to a cat!

dont do it!!

Ive had this, Killed every thing, Its called anus summat or another, I didnt think there was a cure

Nope not yet :)
I'll stick in the "pin me" section and perhaps they can add it in somewhere or something.

So many people in the UK don't know what to do with internal parasites - and if (like me) you can't get levimasole (unless prescribed by the vet at furious cost), and Strazin doesn't help in many cases either - this really is the best / safest option !

And now that I know how "safe" it is to use - and even though I'm against medicating just in case - I'll probably now always dose after introducing wild caught fish (most catfish and many loaches) :good:

Bloo, having medicated at correct dose I can't see how long to leave in the tank or any information re: second dosing etc. Can i ask what you did?

TIA

I didn't actually redose, so I'm afraid I can't help out there :/

I'd probably wait for a week (perform a water change) and then redose if still visible.

I've had a weird one with Sterazin,

I introduced fish lice with 2 new goldfish in my coldwater tank. They're vicious buggers, should have seen my old goldfish go mad when one swam up to him and latched on. When i say old, he's my oldest one, and still going strong despite the lice incident. :good:

The Sterazin didn't appear to kill the lice themselves, there were still 2 left after treating the tank twice. I had to pick them off with tweezers! Maybe it just stopped them reproducing, but it certainly didn't kill the lice, and the new fish I got died also, covered in the lice when they were removed.
