Does This Make You Want A Betta?

It really does make me want to set up a massive rack of 5 gals and buy LOADS more male bettas. But I won't, because I am overstretched with animals as it is and bettas always end up breaking my heart.

Wow, some gorgeous boys there

I'd love to get another Betta as well as my Sherbert, but space dictates no more room for tanks. He's getting an upgrade anyway

Why is it, that they look fabulous in that film but when they get to your LFS, they look like poop

Wow! That was a really cool video... its amazing to see the way they keep & breed them on farms...
and they all look so beautiful

Ahhh well. I'm getting 1 male for my 5.5 gallon and about 5-6 females for my 15 gallons tank.

Alessa x.

No! I dont like the way they are kept in those little spaces and I dont like the way they are stressed out all the time by putting males next to each other to make them display!

Well, in those particular vids they actually have a coloured car inbetween the tanks. They only take the card out when they want to see them flare. (maybe for buying)

theyre breeders. the fish probably get moved on quickly by mass orders. so they only spend a few weeks up close and personal with other males and in such small tanks. it would also help buyers understand the potential of the fish theyre buying as theyre already displaying

I don't see the problem. Those look like 2 gallon tanks which is much better then most bettas I see. The fish are healthy, active, and breeding so they are obviously in a suitable environment. I doubt they are always in view of each other. The second one for sure has cards inserted every two tanks, so each male only sees one other male. They have space in both videos for cards between all the tanks. The same thing is done at shows. You can pull the piece of cardboard out. Watch the fish display and then put it back in when done.

These are not the bettas that wind up in most LFS. Maybe a few select LFS that will carry higher quality fish. These are higher quality bettas, like aquabid, and other more private breeders who sell more expensive fish. I was watching some giant bettas at a LFS the other day. They were cool, but I decided I don't really feel like bettas. Maybe if I could find a solid black plakat....

I sort-of agree. I think if people are going to do anything with animals, the wellbeing of the animals should come first which for me would mean planted tanks, plenty of space, etc. However, these fish were being kept in much better conditions than many other breeders do. Even if it isn't perfect, we should encourage those who do it better than the rest :good:

Guys- i'm getting another one! :hyper: Proboly a male:) I was thinking of a female... but this video changed my mind...

these breeders know what they are doing. i see no problems with any of those fish. they are very very healthy and in amazing condition. the responsible parties would not put these fish in danger in "small tanks" or dangerous condition as it is their livelihood. if i were to breed, i would model their set-up. those are some healthy, GORGEOUS fish!!!
consequently they dont use decor or substrate as its more difficult to keep the water/tank clean.
thanks for sharing. those are some beautiful fish!!! :hyper: i saw a few id like
cheers
