Hi,
In preparation for a juwel filter removal .(125).I last night shut the Tetratec 1200 down and tried a few spare sponges i have for the jewul internal to see if they would fit and how many i could get in there..Great, can get them all in there (4) along with the tetratec media without having to cut or alter them.( So should be able to run the canister on its own without losing any bacteria)Question ...Does it matter where i put the jewul sponges in the canister, wont be putting any where the floss is for ..But is anywhere else o.k. ...Regards Zac

I put my media from my externals into my tetratec 700 yesterday,i removed my carbon from the tetratec and put the mature media in there. :)

Hi Harlequins ,
Yes saw your posting thats what gave me the idea to try it and see what i could get in.. I did that .....removed the carbon pouches and got 2 sponges in there and another 2 in the bio balls...Seems plenty of room ...Want the internal out ...its a eye sore and uses up space...Plus very impressed with the canister...good bit of kit lol ..Your tank looks great well done...Regards Zac

I've had some excellent advice on here so far to get has far has i have! :D

It is not too critical where you put the used media but try to keep in mind that the first thing you want in a canister is something to keep the particulate out. That way all the rest of the filter can stay fairly clean and you can focus on getting nice biological filtration from all the rest of the media. It also means you don't end up needing a heavy cleaning on the biofilter because it stays fairly clean looking and doesn't plug up. Most canisters the water goes in through the bottom and out through the top so the bottom basket gets the media to remove large particles, the various biomedia come next and at the very end you put a polishing pad to keep any fine material from getting into the impeller.
