Does Fish Keeping Run In The Family?

Would you say if you grow up with fish around helps you fall into the hobby?

My parents kept fish when I was very young, a small goldfish in a tank ( they didn't know any better I'm afraid).

They were forced to get rid of the tank after Mum became sick, but earlier this year I bought them a nice 5 gallon tank with some fancy guppies to look after and they absolutely love it. I take care of all the tank maintenance, but it's worth it to see their faces.

My mum's family had a fish tank with angels and such when they lived in the Far East. Since mum grew up and moved back to the UK, we've only had goldfish bowls . . . until I got my first tank at the age of 21, LOL!

Mum has since said that she'd love to get another aquarium but dad isn't too keen.

Dad has had aquariums since I was roughly 9 ish? (now 21), and I was always vaguely interested, but really got into it last year. Looks like my dad has gotten the bug back for it too and is currently setting up a new 160 litre

My parents didnt keep fish, i started out with the common goldfish in a bowl (pre internet and knowing nothing really about fish) , to what i have know, i love the hobby, just wish i had room for a nice big tank

Always had fish.
Mostly tropical but we did used to have a very large 100 gallon goldie tank. We had a 4ft tropical after they died.

I fell into the hobby when my daughter got a fish tank for her birthday

my dad had an oscar as a kid in a 200 gallon pond in puerto rico (died after hurricane though)

and when he got married to my mom we had a 20 gallon (really bad stocking) they died over time then we went into a sort of reptile phase and now i lead with a mix of both

When I was younger I'd always bug and bug my parents to get me a fish tank until they finally bought me one. So it was my nagging that brought along the purchase of our first 10 gallon haha. If it wasn't for me there'd be no fish tanks in the house at all.
But my fish tank has made my mom develop a love for Corydoras and different types of other catfish
