Hi, just wondering if anyone can identify what type of guppy this is and if there is fin rot or if its tail is supposed to be like that? Also bent spine? Or is it ok? Thanks.

The tail is clamped, it's a sickly, very unhappy looking guppy. Something is very wrong. They often drop their tail like that when they're sick, doesn't look like a deformed spine, just another sign that it's ill. Where is it being kept? Tank size? Water test results?

Well it was delivered on Friday and the bag it was in had 4 dead guppies and water was very bad. As i didnt want to risk adding it to my mass in tank, its in the quarantine tank. I wasn't sure he was going to make it but he does look better than he did friday to be fair. They have a heater, air stone and filter. Water ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm. Ph is 6.8. Nitrate 0ppm. I did add few drops of esha 2000. For the 18l size.

Hopefully he will get better in the cleaner environment you provided him, guppies are pretty hardy. He has to flush out all that bad water in his system.
Hope so. Hes in quarantine with one other as they both were in the bag with the 4 dead guppies. Other one though looks much perkier. Hoping to add them both to my main tank in next few days. Excuse his poop.

Ah, that would certainly account for how he looks. Definitely makes sense to quarantine! Never put sick looking fish in your main tank, that's asking for disaster.

Hope the poor guy makes it. Keep up with water changes and hope for the best. Would like to hear whether he makes it or not, if you don't mind sharing.

Just saw the new post - keep them in quarantine for longer than a few days. You won't be able to tell whether they're carrying parasites, worms, or any number of other nasties in the space of a couple of days. Minimum two week quarantine for healthy looking fish, but especially when they're as sickly as this.

Hi yes, I'd be happy to share. Thanks, i will keep him in longer and I'm hoping he starts to look perkier. They do fight a bit these two in quarantine but hopefully they'll be ok. I have 12 male guppies in my 120l so hoping to add them there once quarantine is over.

Keeping a quarantine tank bare bottom and without things like live plants is the right call, but they might feel a bit exposed and stressed as a result of having nowhere to hide, and could account for them fighting too. They can't really hide from each other, ya know? If you can put a few plants or other decor in there, it would probably help that, and help them feel less stressed while they recover. Fake plants are good for quarantine tanks, since you can bleach them when finished if there was any disease, and save and reuse them just for quarantine. live plants even better, but best to only use live plants that you don't mind throwing out after. I use some fake plants just for this, and take trimmings from my fast growing stem plants, and water lettuce from my main tanks and throw it into the quarantine tank when needed. I won't miss it from my main tanks since it'll grow back, and it doesn't bother me if those plants die from medication or salt, or there was a disease and I don't want to risk them going back into my main tank.

These poor little dudes are lucky they ended up in your hands :) Crossing fingers for you that they recover soon.

Hi, its tail still seems a bit clamped but looks a bit better. Can't tell if tail was previously damaged or not maybe from petstore or from when they got transported. I've attached pics.

Was avoiding putting substrate in for now as its my hospital /quarantine tank. Trying to wait till he looks completely ok before adding him to my other 12 guppies in my 120l. Hes in quarantine with one other in the tank as they arrived in bad smelling water via delivery and 4 were dead in bag with them. Hes had the 3 day dose of esha 2000. Hard to tell though if his tail is a bit nipped at or damaged?
