When doing a full cleaning - a horrible mess that won't dry for days.

When doing a water change or a gravel vac... not too much, can easily be cleaned by a sponge

Justa few drops, gotta be careful as its on laminate flooring, also my mum would kill me if I made too much mess, lol.
Cleaning the filters the worst, when i take the head off the cartridge, it always leaks loads outta there, so I put it over my bin, but the placcy bag always leaks :X

I made a huge mess this morning, cos I decided to switch the substrate in my betta tanks so the bowls had gravel and the 2.5g had sand.. There was sand, gravel, water, and plants all over my floor. It was awesome.

Fortunately I live in residence and am moving out at the end of the month, so I only have to live with it for another two weeks. ;)

I use a Python, so I rarely get more than a couple of dribbles down the side of the tank... unless it partially unscrews itself and water squirts out all over my bathroom counter.
The time I changed the substrate in my 10 gallon was a whole other matter, though. My dad's dog came on my room and bumped my leg, throwing me off balance and making me step on the edge of a bowl filled with tank water and my fish, sending all the contents flying across my carpeted bedroom. The fish were ok, but the carpet didn't dry completely for 3 days.

Most of the time I don;t make a mess, but there is the odd time where I get out on control and do all 4 tanks, and then something is bound to happen. One time, I was carrying a big bucket of treated water and the handle broke off what a mess! Glad it was the clean water and not the dirty stuff I had just removed!

It really depends on the day. I still lug buckets of water because I haven't ordered a python yet....plus I use the old tank water for the garden and house plants.

Anyway, if water goes anywhere, it's mostly on me. My jeans and tank top are always wet after changing water in 4 tanks. Plus my hair is a mess from pushing it away with wet hands. Hmmm.....maybe that's why hubbie is so tolerant of my fish habit! :D

I made a MONSTROUS mess back before I got smart enough to know how to operate a gravel vacuum so YES - I sucked on the end of it. Well, as not smart as that was, it was even not smarter when I started getting water in my mouth to yank it out of my mouth, water was still coming through it AND I spit all the water from my mouth all over the couch.

So as if I didn't have enough of a mess already... I was romping around trying to get to the kitchen to wash my mouth out with water and I stepped right into the bowl that I had thrown the end of the vacuum into and there was water in it.

Come to think of it, I have never told anyone that story before.
lol
Funny stuff!

Sounds like one of those rare moments when you're glad no one was around yet you wish at the same time there was a video to record it because it was such a classic messup. :flex:

My Python is my best friend, with an appartment full of carpetit is a must have. Changing the bettas isn't that bad (I do them by hand) but swaping out the 2-10gals and the 55gal. I would never try it with out that thing. Of course it sits in my bathroom sink for 4 days later.

Nothing like having to slug through wet carpet for 5 days afterwards.

I usually don't make much of a mess, there was one time my mom was talking to me and I forgot to check how full the bucket of water I was syphoning out was, ended up going under my dresser in that sort of slow motion thing, so I just barely had time to save the National Geographics I had stashed under there before they got soaked.

I hate cleaning out my thirty gallon though, it's 2 ft high, and on a 2 1/2 ft dresser, so even though I get on a stepladder (I'm a short 4ft 11 1/2) I end up in water up to my armpit, and sometimes one boob in the tank.....

I can't believe I just said that :*) If I worked at a petstore I'd be like that chick in Duece Bigalo...

"I'd like to buy some snails. No, can you get me that one? Right there... Yeah, on the bottom..."

I usually make a fair bit of mess... I spill loads of water on my bedroom carpet. And I have a habit of staining expensive rugs and such with fish meds and dirty water...

I really think a few pics to show us exactly how this happens would be a good idea :hey: ;)

I'm fairly new to this so yes I make a good little mess. And wouldn't you know...just when I thought I had it figured out and could do water changes with little or no mess, my 6 year old decided he wanted to help. So last night we made the biggest mess I'd ever had during a water change. It wasn't all that bad...but I really don't feel like I'm doing much if there aren't a few splashes here and there. Besides getting wet and making a mess for a good reason is fun. At least that's what my six year old said..."It's not making a mess, Mommy, it's taking care of fishies and that's work!" My young philosopher also says that it wasn't fair I got to have all the fun so he thinks he should be my assistant from now on. Which is fine with me. He has his own smaller tank with a Betta so I figure he should learn early to take care of his pets.

I would love to have a big tank, but it puts me off that i make a mess in the kitchen so i can't even think of putting a tank in the room, and i'm also scared if it leaked or cracked, i suppose i will have to get over my fears if i ever want to own a big tank, i've always dreamed of a lovely big marine tank in my room.
