Do Shrimp Need A Cycled Tank?

Well something in America has to cost a lot of money, cos nothing else does :p

That's extremely cheap then. Shipping fish here can easily cost over $50. The numbers I listed in my previous post were for a 1lb package which is only about a pint of water as it weights a little over 8lb per gallon.

The difference in price is probably due to the average distance travelled. The US is a lot more spread out than the UK so the average distance travelled for each item would be much further in the US. The only way to get something coast to coast in the time frame your talking in the US would be to fly it, it the UK it could travel almost the whole country by the next day on a train.

I understand that the US is larger than the UK but I ran the price to ship a 1lb package, overnight guaranteed, from my home to my office (25 miles with the UPS teminal in between them) and it is just a few cent under $20 and that's not counting any heat/ice packs. I'm sure that the air issues are part of it.

I don't think couriers charge per mile, its a flat rate worked out as an average of how much it costs. At least thats I think thats how it works! They would charge the same of it was a journey of 20 miles or a journey of 200 miles even though it would cost them more to deliver the 200 mile package.

Going off topic here people, doesn't matter what it costs

Fact is that everything in America is half the price as it is in England, except shipping evidently, but who cares really... I wanna talk about my shrimplets instead :p

Sorry :)

I would say they need a cycled tank because of how sensitive people say they are. I've never put any in an uncycled tank so couldn't say how they would do, but like somebody else pointed out you can just use some filter media from another tank for an instant cycle.

OMGGGG I have got them and they are TINY and sooooo cute, I will try and get pics but they are smaller than a baby's little toenail

5 can easily sit on the top side of a regular size piece of gravel/pea shingle, they are TINY but I have no decent camera, let alone macros, so I drew arrows to show you

Again, I will say that I agree they need a cycled tank but 10 shrimp that size most likey won't produce as much waste as a single tetra so we're not talking about a lot of bacteria to process their waste. You could most likely take a small piece or 2 of media from an established tank, put it in a new tank and have enough bacteria to handle their waste.

That's exactly what I've done but will do some water changes too during the week and add some cycle
