Do I Really Need A Glass Cover?

My Aqueon hood says I should have a glass cover over my tank so water doesn't somehow get into the lights which already have glass over them is this necessary?Thanks,

If the bulbs are covered and there's no splashing or moisture build up I don't see what the problem would be if you didn't use a second hood. Of course if a warranty or safety issue arose I would lean back to following the manufacturer's recommendations.
