Hi,

Just going to start a blackout in my Rio 180 as BGA has took a hold. Siphoned most of it out last night but it's back again today, so the blackout method seems good.
Current stocking is:
  • 10 Platies (family inc babies)
  • 4 Neons
  • 6 Harlequins
  • 2 Hillstream Loaches (who like oxygenated tanks)
During the blackout, how much will the plants ability to photosynthesise be crippled? I've got a spare pump and airstone, so it wont be difficult to stick one in, but just wanted to make sure. The tank is reasonably heavily planted with Amazon Swords, Crypts, Cabomba, HM, Java Fern, H Polysperma, and Egeria.

Blackout will be three days.

Many thanks,

Rob.

I dont think an airstone is a must, as long as you've turned the CO2 off the tank will be fine for the three days. The plants will be fine too, its only the BGA that cant cope with the lack of light, you'll find most if not all of the 'plant' plants survive unaffected :)
