I was just wondering if I actually need to keep the air pump turned on all the time. Is the filter providing enough oxygen by itself? Here's a picture.

The bubbles on top of the pineapple is where the water comes out of the filter. Sometimes my fish try to eat the bubbles haha. Thanks!

Even so I like to see the air bubbles, it makes it look realistic, after all we are trying to create nature in a tank, a natural look of what a stream would create over a stone...........bubbles.....just a thought!!

You dont NEED an air pump/bubbles but i also love the effect!!! .
From research, air (O2) is good for the fish but Carbon Dioxide is food for plants!!
I turn my air stones off on a night (when plant photosythesise .... I think!! Lol) & run them during the day.
That aside, no you dont NEED them but each to their own!! .

If your filter is creating enough ripples across the surface of the water, then you don't need an air pump, it's just costing you more in electricity
