Hello folks, im new, hoping to get some valuable info over the coming period. I have just bought a juwel trigon 190, it is second hand and i was wandering if it needs to have polystyrene under the base before i fill it? I currently have a 2'x1'x1' tank and am upgrading, and i always had polystyrene under it to spread the load incase of an uneven surface. Any advice appreciated.
Cheers Rick

Hi. :good:

Generally if the underside surface of the floor is completely flat then you will need a polystyrene (or similar) layer under it if you are placing it on a flat surface.

However, if the floor is raised with a ridge around the outside edge (called a 'floating base') then nothing is needed under the floor.

Hope this helps.......if still unsure then do come back before 'experimenting'

Juwel tanks have floating bases, and thus do not need the Polystyrene :good: With floating bases, using Polystyrene will actually damage the tank, so it is very imporant to leave it out

How do you plan to cycle the tank? With upgrades, there are numerous tricks to speed things up, if you have a mature filter to "clone" from ;)
