I have a 20 gallon saltwater aquarium, i have a whisper filter, 2 power heads for water movement. I have only 3 fish, a clown fish and 2 dominos. I have a lot of rock, 2 shrimp, 2 hermit crabs, one devils hand leather coral, some mushroom corals, some pollops, one emerald crab, half a dozen snails. What i need to know is should i also have a protein skimmer

i have one in my 20g ( broke at the moment) but when its working you will be surprised on how much dirty water you will get out of a clean tank, having a protein skimmer is just another form of filtration

The long debated saga..... Skimmers in a 20g are not ESSENTIAL but won't hurt if you have one. What is ESSENTIAL is regular WEEKLY WATER CHANGES of about 10-15% and your water chemistry should remain where you want it.

Regards

No. 10% weekly water changes is all you need. A refugium would be nice. SH

Agreed, a small HOB refugium would be a much better investment.
