Hey, I just put my 1 week old fry in a 2.5 gallon tank I have a heater and a filter but the filter is too strong and the platy babies are struggling to swim against it, would it be dangerous to not have the filter on until they are a little larger and are more capable of swimming against the current?

I would say you should have a filter. You can buy very cheap, air pump driven sponge filters which are perfect for use with fry, like This . Not only this but the needs to be water movement around the heater aswell :good:

I have a Jad sponge filter for my fry, was only £3.50 from my Lfs, I already had an air pump

The simplest answer is that fry and fry food produce ammonia the same as adults and adult food.

You will either need to find a safe way to filter the tank or do enough water changes to prevent a significant build of ammonia.
