I wonder if fish regenerate fins. Some species tend to nip each other.

As far as im aware they do, i have killifish and at one point the male to female ratio was wrong and ended up with missing fins but they grow back very quickly

I think so, I had two Neons loosing there rear fin, one died and the other survived and I couldn't believe my eyes a few weeks later his tail had re-grown.

I concur!

A healthy fish's fins will grow back quite quickly.

Thx for everybody's feedback :)

They do and they don't. It really depends on the amount of damage and type of fish.
Most all fish will grow back fins for minor damage and disease but if the damage is extensive and with some types of fish they won't.

I don't know if big fish like oscar can regenarate fins, but I notice that small fish like danios regenerate fins pretty quickly

The fish lost the pectoral at an early age. It is now about 4 years old and still has a missing fin.

I think your fish lost its limb instead of broken fin. I do believe it's unregeneratable. Not like some reptile which can regenerate certain part of limbs.

Yes- that was the point made by tcamos. Whether or not a fish may regenerate a fin depends on the nature and the extent of the damage.

Once I had frog which has lost its limb and he died a few days later. I'm happy that your fish still live in good condition

I assumed from the wording of the initial question that the OP referred to damaged fins since the term, 'fin nipper' was used.

A completely missing fin or limb would clearly be a bit different and repair/regen would vary widly.

Yes, since english isn't my native language so it can lead into misconception.

I hope you don't mind but I did make an assumption as to your use of language so I hope I didn't offend.
