Hi there could someone direct me to the area of how to make a sump system.....thanks :)

A sump is really easy to build. You let the incoming water splash over a set of particle filtration media and some biological media that is above the water line. Once the water has passed through the media listed above, you let it travel to a sump area where your return pump gets its intake flow. That means you have a tank divider in the sump that separates the media from the sump volume area. Just leave a bit of space at the bottom of your sump divider for water to flow under. The main fluctuation in your sump system will happen in that return sump area. The rest of the tank and filter have their levels controlled by where you have drilled the tank wall and the flow resistance of the media section. The hardest thing for most people is getting the tank overflow system set up right. Whether you decide to use a drilled system or an overflow manifold is really up to you. Drilled systems are easier to maintain while overflow systems require less initial setup because they do not require drilling through the glass of the tank. They basically work as a siphon system of rather large capacity.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. Thanks for your info It sounds very easy on how it works. I just wanted a few ideas on how some people have made their sumps on this forum and if they could share their designs and what they used to put theirs together. Some people seem very extravagant with the materials used and some make do with the simplest things. I've seen a couple of ideas on u tube but a lot of the projects consist of using another aquarium and converting it into a sump. I would prefer not to go with that but something in the lines of plastic containers. But I need something to get started, something to get my imagination into gear. :)

Lots of salt water people use sumps. I bet they could put you right on one fairly fast compared to us. I have seen sumps but have never used one myself.
