DIY Co2 And some Plant Questions!

Welll I wanna start a live plants on my 55 gallon tank. First of all I wanna make a DIY Co2 injector. Next Im gonna chenge my gravel to Sand. So im wondering if thats gonna be a good move. Next Is what kind of plants need Medium To Low Light.
