Divided Tank - Set Up

I got sick of the green flourescent lids on my old 1.5 gal Kritter Keepers, so I thought I would upgrade Jerry and Rio's tanks to something bigger and more attractive. Here are a few pics of the making of my 5 gal divided tank (some are missing, I think my sister may have deleted them by accident):

After a thorough clean, the tank had rails siliconed on. The tops of these that poked over the tank's rim were sawn off and sanded. The new silicone was left to cure for a week:

Thanks! Yep, I have made a temporary lid by placing black plastic beams over the tank and laying clear photocopy film over them. It actually looks alright, not very noticable.

EDIT: It has air holes too, and because of the beams there is no chance of it falling into the water.

I hope to do the same with 5 gallon i have in my bedroom. What are the dimensions of that? mine is a 18x8x8 it's a nice size to work with

Bret, mine is an 18 x 8 x 8 too. It does pose a bit of a challenge finding something to make the divider but other than that it was easy.

It's been a week and Jerry and Rio have made themselves quite at home. I designed the tank to have two dividers, one black and the other clear, so I could occasionally remove the black one and they could have a flare through the clear one. But there are little circulation holes in both layers and the boys catch glimpses of each other through these and flare a few times a day so it works nicely!
