Hi all

The wierdest thing happened to me today when doing my usual weekly maintinace on my main tank (350L) I noticed that my Pleco had dissapeared!!!! I am totally bumused by this I even removed all the plants, rocks wood etc etc surched under and in and around the filter even carefully felt my way through the sand.................NOTHING????

Bearing in mind that this fish was atleast 4-5" long so not easy to loose!!!

I am very worried about whats happened to him??

Has anyone else had this happen to them before??

I have also checked under and around the outside of the tank again NOTHING!!

The only thing I can thing of is that he has been eaten???

Have you checked inside the filter.
Also do you have any pets.

Thanks for your fast reply.

Yes I have checked inside the filter, today was the day to clean the filter media anyway plus the only way in would be from the top where the very top of the filter is not submerged anyway, so i don't think he would of got in there.

The only other pet I have is a 4yr old labradour and he's scared of them in any case.

I would check around the tank and further out.
If not sounds like the fish have eaten him.

I agree check the bogwood.

it might have jumped and the dog got it.
I have had catfish hide inside bits of wood. The wood has been left in buckets for a while and then put back in the tank, and the catfish stayed hiding in it all the time. If the fish hasn't jumped or died, it will be hiding somewhere in the tank.

This is what i'm thinking but the size of him though!!! I know the oscar is deffo big enough to carry out the attack but honestly i really thought he would have taken some eating and that i would of noticed something before now??

There is absolutly no trace of him if it had been the much smaller pleco that by the way is very lazy when it comes to glass cleaning  then i would half believe that he was eaten.

This is driving me mad

Check the bogwood, he could have been clinging onto that when you removed everything.

Thanks for your post

Yes trust me i checked the bog wood atleast 3 times no pleco??

My dog believe me would have run a mile if a fish jumped out of the tank + this just won't happen cause the Jewel Trigon is fully covered plus do sucker fish jump??

Don't give up hope just yet, plecs are great hiders.
He might just turn up again.

Do you have lots of Malaysia livebearing /trumpet snails in the tank? They can eat an entire fish in a night if there is enough of them.

I know it doesn't help at this minute...

but I had a pleco that disappeared for over a month. I have absolutely no idea where he went, but one day... there he was. My daughter spotted him. It was pretty wild.

It doesn't answer your question... but there's hope...

Good Luck!
