ok so after finding out i need to move my firemouths to a different tank, i also decided to move move my gouramis and now i have an empty 180 ltr tank, how many discus could i keep in here?

im afraid that tank is too small for discus. really youre looking at 55g minimum for a group of discus.

As Mark already stated as a beginner its best to have a minimum of 210L it would be more advised to have 250L+

An option would be a small group of Angels, they are also very beautiful fish

i dont really like angels, i think if my tank is too small i will jus order my 6ft tank sooner than i planned, but i will still need ideas for my 180 ltr

Find yourself a school of Parambassis pulcinella, they have the Discus shape and will love it (presuming 180l are 48" long)!

if youre going to be keeping large numbers of discus in a big tank , the best thing i could think of using the 180l for would be a hospital/quarentine tank .

They are about the ugliest fish i have ever seen! I pity anyone who could have them...well no, i applaud anyone who can put up with them and chose to have those fish :good:

Have you concidered a schoal of Silver Dollars. I remember as a kid sitting a watching my grandads tank, he had silver dollars....they captivated me. Probably because i was a child and they were all glistening in the lights. They were so majestic, then instantly they would dart across the tank.

I've always been tempted to turn my 180L into a catfish tank. Obviously a 180L isnt suitable for most catfish, but the one that caught my eye wasnt a massive catfish. It was the Pictus Catfish (Pimelodus Pictus)i think thats the scientific name :S. They stay quite small and are wonderfull to watch.

Not everything in life is about looks ;)

These guys have such quirky behavior, can all be schooling together and then suddenly the alpha creates a chain reaction in the group where they all want their space from each other!

too small for silver dollars too im afraid

thats much more workable . i rekon you could have 6 discus and a nice sized shoal of cardinals or rummynose would look nice .

4x2x2 would be better stiil. the footprint would allow more space for teritories
