Well, I did a bit of research on discus today... I don't know if they are for me yet, though. I read that they need tri-weekly ater changes even as adults, and this deffinately put me off. I have some questions on them, though.

1. Can they live in planted tanks without destroying plants?
2. Will the eat full grown Endler's?
3. Would a 40 breeder be okay for a pair?
4. Could I get away with a 50% weekly water change?
5. What's up with this bare bottom thing?

1. Can they live in planted tanks without destroying plants?Yes
2. Will the eat full grown Endler's? Maybe.
3. Would a 40 breeder be okay for a pair? Probibly, but you'll need a grow out tank for the fry. and that would be atleast 50g
4. Could I get away with a 50% weekly water change? 2 atleast weekly
5. What's up with this bare bottom thing? easier to clean

1.i keep my discus in a planted aquarium with echinodorous sp.,anubias sp., anacharis sp., vallisneria sp.
2.no they don't eat full grown endler.
3.general conventional rule say that you should provide 10 gallon per adult discus. for a breeding pair 20 gallon per discus will be sufficient.so 40 gallon tank is perfect for a breeding pair...
4.ya,discus fish is the most sensitive fish about water.any high rise of water parameter can damage their health.so do 50% water change per week.
5. since discus fish is the most sensitive fish about water.any high rise of water parameter can damage their health. so many keep their discus in a bare bottom tank so that water can purify properly. but i am successful with a planted discus aquarium....

Is your computer acting up on you? Lol! I think I might CAREFULLY look into a pair. I don't want a bare bottom tank, though. I would need substrate for the plants... Would sand be any eaiser to clean? How about stocking like this?

1 Discus pair
6-10 cardinals (they are $5.99 here! Ouch!)
8 Sterbai cory
6 Male Endlers?

I'm still kind of concerned about water changes... It will have a 285 GPH flow rate. I had a German Ram for about 6 months, but I got very slacky with water changes, and I think that he died because of that. What are some reccomended ways to do a water change? I thought about getting a submersible pump, and attaching tubing to the outlet, and letting it drain in a bucket. That would work out quite well, I think. But I will probally look into a python.

On a scale from 1-10, how hard would YOU rate a discus with 1 being the eaisest and 10 being the hardest.

Sounds like a pretty good stock but if your planning on breeding them you should have them by them selves.

And ya my comp was acting up ! lol

and i would rate a discus about a 5

8 Sterbai cory!!! you can easily keep 4 cory rather than 8 cory....the python is always works well for partal w/c...the best filter i a discus tank is always an Ethim external filter.....keep in mind that you can't introduce a power filter there. if you introduce an internal filter that will always be a biological filter or top filter.
i rate 9 for this....

What are you saying about the internal filter? I have an internal right now. Would this be a problem? And about the corys. Maybe 8 is a little much for that stocking, would 5 be okay? What height should the tank be? The tank I have now is 17" tall.

as per internal filter i say the biological filter or HOB filter...in my discus aquarium i have biological and HOB filter....
and you can easily keep 5 corys,it's ok....

I have another question. If I have a 535 GPH filtration rate, would this lower the ammount of water changes I would have to make? I think I have devised a plan for water changes that wont take near as much work.
