I am considering keeping discus in my juwel trigon 190. I have done a lot of reading about these fish and understand that the water quality has to be spot on. I am running a tetratec ex1200 so the water in the tank is as good as I will get it. Would I be able to keep discus without a reverse osmosis input? Also, how many discus could I keep in my tank, I was thinking four.

Alot of people will say its too small for discus...... But...devotedtodiscus (member) keeps discus "outside of the guidelines" and his fish are stunning. I think he also keeps his in tapwater. Stendker discus are also bred in tapwater. so im sure you might be able to keep some, although ive never kept them myself so its probably best to ask devotedtodiscus for his thoughts :)

Heres one of his links :)

I don't necessarily think that 190L is too small to keep a small group of discus, but I think that the Trigon is the wrong tank to try it in for the first time. Discus really need a rectangular (long) shaped tank, and the footprint of the Trigon is a bit small due to the shape. As far as the RO is concerned, what is your water quality like in the tank you have now (if you have one)? For instance, in my tank, the PH is 6.6, dKH is about 3, nitrate 5ppm, and I only do weekly WC's with treated tap water, so if I were to keep discus I wouldn't bother with RO. If you have hard or alkaline water, it may be something to think about?
