(sorry i'm a little late, but..)

i had discus once, a while ago.. and i HATED them, honestly, i will never own one again. i started with 11 good sized ones in a huge tank - checked pH and dH and amonia and nitrate and everything just about daily, and they still died on me.. granted, i did have them for a while.. once i got down to three, though, i moved them into a smaller, 35 gallon tank with a pleco..

and my advice is NEVER EVER put discus in with those things.. it killed all three of them.. i didn't discover this until it was too late.. i kept thinking that the discus had somehow jumped out of the tank even though there was a lid, and i couldn't find bodies anywhere.. then, when there was just one in there i saw that little booger sucking on his side.. needless to say, he died.. :(

they do take a lot of care, and when i bought mine they were pretty expensive (i'm not sure about prices now) so just make sure you are going to be committed to them

At my lfs, they're $60 each.

Yeah. sounds like trouble.

Where I live I am amazingly fortunate with my water (PH7, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, Gh <3, Kh <3, amonia 0) so looking after discus would be that much easier beacause its so easy to adjust my water.
Its not so much the cost to me but its more of an emotional thing. I get V attached to my pets (even fish) if one dies I am gutted.

I have decided to stock my tank with oddballs and semi aggressive fish such as Black ghost knife, african butterflys, tiger loaches etc.
Its more important to me that a fish has character defined by an unautherdox beauty rather than a conventional one. I think I'm just in love with the stranger things the world has to offer. (much to my girlfriends dismay)
I would love a monster fish but dont have the space for one... yet!

Wow! For that price, I would *definitely* have a discus tank! I'm trying to figure out how on earth I can get my husband to let me spend $120 on 2 fish

Parker313 my dear lady. If you dont know how to get a man to let you buy things just speak to my girlfriend! She will teach you.
She puts the mis in mistress and the dis in distress!!

I would just say traet your man real good. Let him watch tv all day, make him food and keep him well sexed.
The discus will be yours in no time.

Hi Cheesypoo!!!
