I would leave them to it for a few days. This is quite normall with discus, they are shy. It was a different story when I bought mine though, 3 hours after I put them into the tank they started spawing!! :hyper:

whats your water stats? did you buy these from a pet shop or a proper breeder?

bought from chens discus
water stats are fine

all discus are different one might come pout straight away another might hide for ages, the first four discus we got were always hiding only came out when there was no movement and the lights were out they were like that for a couple of months.but the next four we bought stuck them in the tank they came out straight away, they were fed by hand by the person who bred them so they were very friendly.so dont worry if they dont come out for a couple of days because they just getting to knew movements and there surroundings, they will get used to it after a little while the other you could try is having plants that hang on the top of the water thats gives them a bit of security the other thing that makes them feel secure is cardinals or some sort of shoaling fish just not to small though as they will be nice snack for tem.hope this helps :D

chens are one of the best breeder i know and have lovely stock of discus! I would have thought that his fish would be hand fed and very friendly.

Just give then a few days, see how things go. What else have you in the tank? Is there anything there that would make them nervous?

Also they could have had a ph shock due to your ph being different to theirs. Photos will be nice! :good:

there is a pair of honey gouramis, which do their own thing and are very active, 3 small hoplos and bn's, clown plecs.

should i add some sort of tetra or not.

ive noticed them coming out at night for a minute now and again.
there are plants in there as well as floating.

there is no porblems looking with the discus, no clamped fins or rapid breathing etc.

still not eating yet , thts what im a bit worried about.

Hi Chris,
I was always told to keep young discus in hotter water than nrrmal and I wonder if you have done this for your guys? Possibly worth a try if you have not tried this already?

I hope they work out for you theu looked very nice..

Its good to hear that they havent got clamped fins ets! but If think that the gouramis aint doing them any good. They are fin nippers are too active! The plecs should be okay unless tey dont get the taste of discus slime!! Also, your water temp with discus should be atleast 28 digrees!

bn's are just babies so should be ok.

36 hours is nothing. Give it a week or two, they are still settling into their new home.

Honey Gourami aren't fin nippers, they are quite peaceful and shouldn't be doing any harm. I have one in with my Discus and it doesn't bother anything.

I think more of a stocking issue are the Hoplos. These things are pretty active and nocturnal. They may stress the Discus out with quick movements at night as the Discus try to sleep.

the hoplos are just about an inch and a half long.

i agree honey gouramis are definately no t fin nippers.

would it help to add tetras to the tank, so theyre are more fish going about would it help with discus confidence?

how long could it taek until they start eating .
whats food will they take more than anything when they are been like this?

try tempt them with live food?? I used to feel white worms to my discus and they went crazy! loved them! My sister has a houney gourami and he/she is a very misserable fish that nips all the others!! but I think it doesnt help as her tank is defo overstocked and she wont listento my advice to get rid of some or buy a bigger tank!!

Live foods will likely entice them to eat sooner, as would raising the temperature, but don't pressure them to eat, or it may put them off :/

Hopplos are active fish that may well caurse issues...

Gouramis aren't usually a problem

What size discus are we talking about, and how many do you have? Youngh Discus are used to being in a large group. If you have less than 5, they will likely be shy if under 5 inches. Larger fish are normally more out-going :good:

All the best
